ECGC, DwarfCorp, and Guest Lecturing at American University 4-17-2018

ECGC is tomorrow, so have this update:

DAVID IS A GROWN UP THAT PEOPLE LISTEN TO

In March, I gave a big grown up smarty pants better than you guest lecture at Lindsay Grace‘s Design of Play class at American University. AU has a shiny and pretty new Game Lab for their game studies program. Lindsay is interested in me possibly teaching game writing in the program, so he thought the guest lecture would be a nice first step towards figuring that out. I talked mainly about how game writers have no idea what they’re doing. Here’s a link to the talk slides without much explanation, cus I don’t wanna.

DAVID IS A GAME DESIGNER NOW, I GUESS, OR AGAIN / INDIE TITLES ARE BULLSHIT / DWARFCORP

In March, a capitalism sim and Dwarf Fortress- like, DwarfCorp, contracted me to design and test their game. So, I guess this counts as my first official “Game Designer” credit? There’s an event system and many other things I’ll try and make into writing, I’m sure. It’s pretty nice so far. There’s a lot of established systems. All we need is to set a course. I certainly have some feelings about capitalism, so, join me, won’t you? If you wanna whine, have a good idea, or whatever about the game, try our Discord.

MISC.

– I mean, I mentioned I was going to ECGC already.
– I may be giving a talk on game writer stuff at the end of May at a local Unity Meetup. For once, there might be a video of that to share.
